On 10 January 2026, Chief Superintendent of Police (C/Supt) Mrs. Rosina Adwoa Donkor Gariba, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Ghana Formed Police Unit (FPU), donated footballs, jerseys, sports pants, candies, detergents, and toiletries to the Holy Trinity Football Team of St. Martin Depories Catholic Church Youth in Bentiu, South Sudan.
The initiative aims to inspire young people to pursue their dreams through education and sports.
The donation event was led by Field Office Police Coordinator Madam Sireh Jabang, accompanied by Mr. Samuel T. Varney, Officer in Charge of the FPU Field Office in Bentiu. The ceremony began with an opening prayer from Father John Gatluck, who thanked the Ghana FPU and UN personnel, blessing the gifts and praying for peace in South Sudan.

Team coach Simon Gatluck introduced the players, including the goalkeeper, defender, and midfielder, to the dignitaries.
C/Supt Mrs. Rosina Adwoa Donkor Gariba, supported by four senior officers—DSP Eunice Araba Quainoo, ASP Anthony Kenneth Cudjoe, ASP Daniel Kujo, and ASP Elizabeth Oforiwaa Amanfo—along with 15 other ranks, emphasized that the donations were made with generosity to positively impact the lives of these young athletes.
She highlighted her year-long deployment in South Sudan as DCO for Ghana FPU-1 Rotation 9, supporting UN mandates including civilian protection, humanitarian assistance, and community empowerment.

She explained that during patrols and community engagement, she identified ways to support the youth. Her husband, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr. Vance Baba Gariba, a veteran peacekeeper, was informed and contributed sporting items, which he brought during his visit for the Ghana FPU Rotation 9 medal pinning ceremony.
Mrs. Gariba stressed the importance of sports in teaching discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and unity, expressing pride in promoting these values. She referenced South Sudan’s basketball team, the Bright Stars, which qualified for the 2023 Olympics World Cup as the Best African team, and expressed confidence that some of these youth may one day represent their country on the global stage.

Madam Sireh Jabang, special guest of honor, encouraged the youth to see the significance of giving, noting that the donations, though seemingly small, carry great impact. She emphasized that peace and development in South Sudan require collective effort from youths, parents, teachers, politicians, and police officers.

Bishop Christian also expressed gratitude to the Ghana FPU and the Gariba family, highlighting their dedication to youth development and peacebuilding. He encouraged South Sudan to look to Ghana as a model of peace and cooperation. The program concluded with a closing prayer by Bishop Christian, blessing the Gariba family and the youth participants.
