- Churches urged to strengthen discipleship and character-based leadership training
The Resident Pastor of Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), Pastor Joshua Obeng, has expressed concern over what he describes as a serious leadership crisis in Ghana, noting that the country’s most pressing challenge is ineffective leadership.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Pastor Obeng explained that many individuals struggle in both public and private leadership roles because they assume positions of authority without adequate training or character development.
He observed that many aspiring leaders fail to cultivate essential leadership qualities long before they are elected or appointed, leaving them ill-prepared when the responsibility finally comes.

In a bid to help address this challenge, Pastor Obeng announced that Calvary Charismatic Centre has partnered with renowned Ghanaian theologian, motivational speaker, and Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, to organize an annual leadership development programme known as the Start Well Conference.
The 2026 edition of the conference is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 22, and Friday, January 23, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the CCC Auditorium in Kumasi, located behind the Tech Police Station. A leadership summit will also be held at the same venue on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.

According to Pastor Obeng, the Start Well Conference is designed to equip participants with practical insights and strategies to help them begin the year with clarity and purpose, enabling them to achieve success in their various pursuits throughout 2026. The event will also feature gospel ministration by award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer and songwriter, Minister Joe Mettle.
Pastor Obeng further urged churches across the country to intensify discipleship programmes that focus on leadership and character formation, rooted in Christ-like values.
