The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has reiterated the Ghana Armed Forces’ unwavering readiness to defend the nation against any threat.
He made this known during his working visit to the Northern Region, part of a broader familiarisation tour across the country following his recent appointment.
During a stop at the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale, Major General Gbetanu emphasized the importance of these visits, stating they are meant to enhance operational preparedness and allow him to engage directly with soldiers stationed at the frontlines of national defense.
“This marks my 10th visit since taking office. The goal is to evaluate the troops’ operational capabilities, administrative systems, and logistics. It’s also a chance to connect with personnel on the ground and inspire them to remain dedicated to protecting Ghana,” he explained.
His tour included inspections of critical military facilities and training programs, notably the 6th Infantry Battalion and the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya. He also paid a courtesy visit to the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, aimed at strengthening ties between the military and traditional authorities.
Speaking to the media, Major General Gbetanu reaffirmed the army’s commitment to national security, especially in light of growing threats in the sub-region.
“The Ghana Armed Forces stands ready to confront any challenge—be it internal unrest or external aggression. Our forces are strategically deployed nationwide to safeguard the peace and stability of our country,” he said confidently.
