President John Mahama has recognized the ongoing battle against illegal mining, known as galamsey, as a deeply complex issue.
Despite the challenges, he remains resolute, emphasizing that he never believed the fight could be won within just a few months of taking office.
Speaking at the Workers’ Day event at Black Star Square on May 1, Mahama highlighted that the struggle against galamsey is not an easy one, and he never underestimated its difficulty during his presidential campaign.
“I knew the fight wouldn’t be won in four months, but we will not give up,” he affirmed.
Mahama also praised the Ghana Armed Forces and security agencies for their ongoing efforts, commending their progress in tackling illegal mining operations.
“Our brave men in the Armed Forces and security services are making steady progress, and we will continue to succeed against the individuals and companies that harm our environment,” he said.
Concluding his statement on a hopeful note, Mahama declared, “As far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, I say Aluta Continua,” reinforcing his commitment to the cause.
