Mrs. Lordina Mahama has been enstooled as Nana Oseadeeyo Odenwa II by the Paramount Chief of the Akroso Asukawkaw Traditional Area, Nana Odam Gyamfi III, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthcare in the community.
The honour was conferred during the commissioning of a fully equipped, state-of-the-art maternity and children’s ward constructed by the Lordina Foundation to serve Asukawkaw and surrounding communities in the Krachi East Municipality.
In his address, Nana Odam Gyamfi III praised the First Lady for her swift response to the community’s appeal for improved maternal healthcare, noting that expectant mothers previously endured long and often dangerous journeys to access medical care.
“Words are not enough to express my deepest appreciation… You are indeed the Mother Teresa of our time,” he said, describing the new facility as a source of relief, dignity, and hope for the people.
The chief highlighted ongoing challenges in the area’s health infrastructure, revealing that the existing clinic operated a single four-bed ward for men, women, children, and pregnant women, which he described as inadequate. He called for further upgrades, including a polyclinic, an accident and trauma ward, an ambulance, and a fire station to support emergency response along the busy corridor linking southern Ghana to Dambai and northern regions.
The newly commissioned facility includes:
-
Modern reception and waiting area
-
Consulting rooms, maternity ward, children’s ward, and delivery suite
-
Sterilisation unit and fully equipped operating theatre
-
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
-
Essential equipment such as electric hospital beds, incubators, ultrasound machines, phototherapy units, patient monitors, and oxygen systems
-
Solar panels for emergency power and cost reduction
This project continues the Lordina Foundation’s efforts to expand access to maternal and child healthcare across underserved communities, complementing similar interventions in Bole, Nkoranza, Bodom, and the renovations of Hohoe Polyclinic and Adabraka Polyclinic in Accra.
The initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader agenda of delivering quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare to all Ghanaians.
