A 43-year-old farmer, Abdulai Yussif, has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality on a charge of rape. The alleged victim is a hearing-impaired woman.

Yussif appeared before the court, presided over by Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, and entered a not guilty plea. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 11, 2025.

Details of the Allegation

Police Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour, the prosecutor, presented the details of the case. The victim, 40-year-old Yaa Agbavaon, resides with her grandmother in Afreseni near Mankranso, located in the Ahafo Ano South-West District.

The alleged incident occurred on July 14, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM. The victim was on her way to her grandmother’s farm when she noticed the accused person following her on the path.

According to the prosecution:

  • The victim stopped to let the accused pass.

  • Yussif allegedly grabbed her hand, dragged her into the nearby bush, forcibly undressed her, and had sexual intercourse with her.

  • Following the assault, the accused allegedly gave the victim a GH¢200 note and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

Arrest and Confession

Despite the warning, the victim proceeded to the farm and immediately reported the traumatic ordeal to her grandmother. A formal report was subsequently lodged with the Mankranso police.

The police arrested the accused, Abdulai Yussif. In his caution statement to the police, the prosecution informed the court that the accused admitted to having raped the victim. Following further investigation, he was formally charged and brought before the Circuit Court.

The case has drawn attention to the need for increased protection and support for vulnerable persons, particularly those with disabilities, within the community.
