Story Highlights
  • Ewurabena Aubynn to be sworn in today as MP for Ablekuma North
  • Rerun held after EC annulled 2024 results due to irregularities
  • Aubynn’s win gives NDC a two-thirds majority in Parliament

Ewurabena Aubynn, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ablekuma North, is set to be officially sworn into Parliament today, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, by Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

Her inauguration follows a tightly contested parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, which was necessitated by the Electoral Commission’s annulment of the original December 2024 results due to irregularities. Issues included unsigned pink sheets, discrepancies in collation figures, and other procedural breaches across 19 polling stations.

In the rerun held earlier this month, Aubynn, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.

Aubynn’s victory marks a crucial win for the NDC, handing the party a two-thirds majority in Parliament—a supermajority that positions them to influence key decisions including constitutional amendments, major approvals, and national reforms.

Today’s swearing-in ceremony will take place during Parliament’s sitting and is expected to draw attendance from party leaders, lawmakers, and dignitaries. It signals a pivotal moment in the NDC’s efforts to solidify its legislative dominance in 2025.
