The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, says the party’s leadership in the region is facing intense pressure from grassroots supporters demanding job opportunities.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi on December 8, Mr. Andrews urged party faithful to remain calm as concerns grow over delays in government appointments and employment openings. He praised the dedication and sacrifice of supporters who played a pivotal role in the NDC’s 2024 electoral victory, promising that those efforts will not be forgotten.
Although the Ashanti Region has long been considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC recorded notable improvements in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. However, over a year after the party took office, local leaders and government officials continue to face mounting pressure from members seeking employment — a situation Mr. Andrews described as one of his toughest challenges.
He appealed for patience, stressing that the party’s leadership is working to address the demands.
According to him, “The grassroots used their energy, money, and resources to secure victory, and it’s natural that they expect compensation. The pressure is enormous — everyone is asking for their share.”
He noted that while not everyone can be appointed, the leadership will ensure fairness in the distribution of opportunities so supporters benefit from their hard work.
Mr. Andrews also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to collaborating with the Government to fulfil key promises made to residents of the Ashanti Region, assuring that the people will not be disappointed.
