EC Denounces Viral Video of Voters Register in White Truck as False

Electoral Commission clarifies its registers are black-and-white, urges police investigation into misleading video

Story Highlights
  • EC confirms the Voters Register in the video is not an official document
  • The white pick-up truck shown does not belong to the Electoral Commission
  • Police urged to investigate using the truck's visible registration number

The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to disregard a viral social media video claiming to show a Voters Register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 being transported in a white pick-up truck alongside other registers.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the EC clarified that the register in the video is not its official document. Unlike the colored version in the footage, the Commission’s registers are strictly black and white.

The EC explained that while final registers are made available to political parties, these parties often print their own copies for their agents. Moreover, the white pick-up truck seen in the video does not belong to the Commission.

“This video is a deliberate attempt to sow suspicion and mistrust in the Electoral Commission’s work,” the EC emphasized.

Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey called on the police to investigate the matter, highlighting that the visible registration number of the truck could aid in identifying those responsible for the dissemination of the misleading footage.
