Renowned educationist and Principal of Jackson University College, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, has advised parents to desist from stressing themselves in an attempt to make their children feel like others during the Christmas season.
She noted that while it is not wrong to give children special treats during Christmas, parents and guardians who have limited resources should do so moderately and according to their financial abilities.
“Share with them the little you can afford, with smiles and powerful words of hope and assurances of a better tomorrow,” Mrs. Jackson added.
She further advised that parents should not feel pressured if they are unable to buy gifts for their children on Christmas Day.
“If you cannot afford to buy your children anything on Christmas Day, do not stress yourself. Talk to them and continue providing for them as you always do. Christmas will soon pass, but their daily needs will always be there,” she counselled.
Speaking to Lawson News after a Carol Service at the Jackson University College Head Office in Kumasi, Mrs. Jackson reminded parents of the importance of paying school fees and purchasing school items as schools are set to reopen in a few days.
She cautioned against excessive spending during the Christmas period, stressing that it could negatively affect parents’ ability to meet their children’s educational needs.
Mrs. Jackson also advised the youth to understand the true purpose of Christmas and to eschew alcoholism, fornication, and other negative practices associated with the festive season.
She encouraged young people to embrace technology and digital skills to better position themselves for the global job market, adding that Jackson University College offers a wide range of IT-related programmes for both the youth and adults to help them thrive in the digital world.
