Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has issued a firm warning to personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), cautioning them against offering unauthorized security services to private individuals.

During a working tour of the Eastern Naval Command under the One Garrison in Tema on Thursday, July 17, Dr. Boamah stressed the need for uncompromising professionalism and discipline within the ranks.

“We expect a very high level of discipline and professionalism from the Ghana Armed Forces — and that includes refraining from providing guard duties to individuals not sanctioned by law,” he stated.

Dr. Boamah emphasized that any personnel found assigning or performing illegal guard duties would be subject to disciplinary action.

“Those who provide such guard duties will be dealt with, and those who send them out for those duties will also face the consequences,” he warned.

He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the military through increased resourcing. Dr. Boamah highlighted an ambitious $1 billion investment initiative aimed at enhancing the operational capacity and readiness of the GAF.

“With your training, expertise, and dedication — and with President Mahama’s vision of investing up to $1 billion in the Armed Forces — we are confident that Ghana’s safety and security will be significantly boosted,” he added.

The visit forms part of broader efforts by the Defence Ministry to enforce accountability, boost morale, and ensure the military operates strictly within its constitutional and legal framework.
