- Agyepong’s agenda focuses on land reform, youth empowerment, urban and rural renewal, fiscal discipline, meritocracy, and arts and sports development
- He calls on NPP delegates to choose integrity, character, and principles over vanity, patronage, and political favoritism
- The campaign emphasizes job creation, environmental stewardship, judicial reform, and completion of public projects
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has presented a bold six-point campaign covenant anchored on integrity, unity, and service, as he intensifies his bid to lead the party into the 2026 presidential race, just days before the January 31 primaries.
Delivering his “Leadership with Integrity, Uniting the NPP” policy address on Tuesday, January 20, the former NPP General Secretary said Ghana has strayed from the vision of its founders, citing persistent unemployment, poverty, poor sanitation, galamsey, slum proliferation, and a politicized public service.
“We see the numbers. But even more importantly, we feel the dismal reality,” he said, highlighting the frustrations of youth and unemployed graduates.
Ing. Kwabena Agyepong positioned himself as a break from the cycle of decline, emphasizing that leadership is about service, understanding, and love for the people, not entitlement.
At the heart of his campaign is a six-pillar national renewal agenda:
-
Land Reform and Youth Empowerment: Launch of a transparent land reform framework, promotion of youth-led environmental stewardship, and transition to modern, climate-smart agriculture.
-
Urban Regeneration and Rural Renewal: Strict enforcement of planning laws, zero tolerance for corruption and indiscipline, and environmental protection initiatives.
-
Fiscal Discipline and Project Completion: Ending wasteful spending, ensuring existing projects are completed before new ones begin, and enforcing value-for-money audits.
-
Meritocracy in Public Service: Promotions based on competence, downsizing government, ending political patronage, and judicial reforms including a capped 11-member Supreme Court and removal of mandatory retirement age.
-
Informal Sector Empowerment: Simplified licensing, legal protection, and support for traders and artisans without punitive taxation.
-
Creative Arts and Sports Development: Protection of intellectual property, revival of grassroots sports, and prioritization of football, athletics, boxing, and school-level sports systems.
Calling on NPP delegates to support a values-driven party, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong urged:
“Do not choose just a candidate. Choose values over vanity. Choose principles over patronage. Choose character over chicanery.”
The NPP presidential primaries are scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, with Agyepong contesting against Ken Ohene Agyepong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
