Connecting Ghana, Building a Progressive Future Together
Driving Digital Inclusion, Economic Growth, and Community Transformation Across Ghana
- Record GHS10.5bn paid in taxes in 2025.
- 19m+ MoMo users driving financial inclusion.
- GHS100m+ invested in community projects nationwide.
For many Ghanaians, MTN Ghana is simply the network behind a clear phone signal or the familiar “ping” of a MoMo alert. Yet beyond calls, texts, and data bundles lies a deeper story of national partnership and economic impact. As Ghana strengthens its path toward resilience and growth, MTN Ghana has evolved from a telecommunications provider into a strategic driver of national development.
While the company connects millions daily, much of its most meaningful work happens behind the scenes. From supporting educational institutions to investing in healthcare infrastructure, MTN Ghana continues to raise the benchmark for corporate citizenship—contributing to the foundations that sustain modern life.
Driving Economic Growth Through Fiscal Contribution
MTN Ghana remains one of the country’s most significant corporate contributors. In 2025, the company reported a record GHS10.5 billion in direct and indirect taxes paid to the state—a 22.6% increase over 2024—demonstrating resilience despite inflationary pressures and currency volatility.
In 2024 alone, MTN Ghana paid GHS8.6 billion in combined direct and indirect taxes, alongside an additional GHS0.5 billion in fees, levies, and statutory payments to government agencies. These contributions reinforce its position as Ghana’s highest corporate taxpayer and a reliable partner in national revenue mobilization.
Beyond taxes, sustained investments in network expansion and digital innovation continue to stimulate job creation, support entrepreneurship, and expand access to essential digital services. In 2025, the company invested approximately GHS6.4 billion in capital expenditure (CAPEX), strengthening connectivity and improving service quality across both urban and rural communities.
Advancing Financial Inclusion Through MoMo
Seventeen years ago, access to formal financial services in many parts of Ghana was limited by geography, infrastructure, and cost. Through its Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, MTN Ghana has helped transform this landscape—bringing secure, accessible financial services directly to millions.
Today, MoMo serves over 19 million active users nationwide, enabling money transfers, bill payments, savings, and micro-financial services. For many rural and underserved communities, these tools were once out of reach. The platform’s growth signals significant progress toward a more inclusive, cash-lite economy.
The MoMo ecosystem has also become a powerful engine for employment. As of late 2025, it had registered more than 923,000 agents, with approximately 423,000 active daily. For many young people—particularly in rural and peri-urban areas—becoming a MoMo agent represents an entry point into the formal economy. Through direct and indirect employment, MTN Ghana remains one of the largest private-sector employers in the country.
Accelerating Investment and Infrastructure Expansion
The importance of Ghana to the broader MTN Group was underscored in early 2025 during a high-profile visit by Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita. He announced that the company would invest $1.1 billion into Ghana over the next three years—an accelerated commitment compared to the $1 billion invested over the previous five-year period.
This new phase of investment will focus on infrastructure and emerging technologies. In 2026, MTN Ghana plans to build 500 new network sites to eliminate connectivity gaps and enhance service quality, particularly in peri-urban communities.
Strengthening Communities Through the MTN Ghana Foundation
Beyond its core business, the MTN Ghana Foundation continues to drive social impact nationwide. To date, the Foundation has invested over GHS100 million in approximately 178 projects across Ghana.
In education, the Bright Scholarship program stands out as a flagship initiative. In 2025, the Foundation awarded 500 scholarships to brilliant but financially challenged students and teachers across all 16 regions. Many beneficiaries—primarily from public tertiary institutions—have gone on to graduate as doctors, engineers, ICT specialists, and other professionals.
In healthcare, the Foundation’s “Save a Life” blood donation campaign has collected 46,026 units of blood in support of the National Blood Service and regional hospitals as of 2026. Major infrastructure projects include the commissioning of a 60-bed maternity and neonatal center at the Keta Municipal Hospital in 2024, the construction of a STEM robotics laboratory at Mamfe Girls’ SHS, and the completion of an ICT Block at Yilo Krobo Senior High School in 2025. On 5 March 2026, the Foundation is set to hand over a state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Block to the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Supporting enterprise development, the Foundation’s Enterprise Support Program provided financial and technical assistance to 450 MSMEs in 2025, helping them scale sustainably. It also advanced agricultural innovation by handing over a Vegetable Hub of Excellence to the University of Ghana School of Agriculture—equipping young people with practical, technology-driven farming skills.
Looking Ahead: A Digital Future
As MTN Ghana marks its 30th anniversary in 2026, the company is charting a renewed growth trajectory. It is transforming into a connectivity, fintech, and platform business operating across interconnected layers of the digital economy.
By expanding network infrastructure, scaling digital platforms, and deepening financial technology solutions, MTN Ghana is evolving beyond traditional telecommunications to deliver integrated digital services. This transformation is unlocking new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion—strengthening Ghana’s socio-economic future while contributing to broader progress across Africa.
From connecting people to empowering communities, MTN Ghana continues to help build a more progressive and digitally inclusive nation.
