CLOGSAG Members Commence Indefinite Nationwide Strike Over Delayed Service Conditions
CLOGSAG members begin an indefinite nationwide strike today, defying the National Labour Commission’s directive
- Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have launched a countrywide strike starting Monday, March 9
- Despite instructions from the National Labour Commission to suspend the strike and return to negotiations
- The strike is expected to disrupt operations across ministries, departments, agencies, and local government offices nationwide
Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have commenced an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, citing prolonged delays in the implementation of their agreed conditions of service.
The industrial action is expected to disrupt operations across multiple ministries, departments, agencies, and local government offices, where CLOGSAG members make up a significant portion of the administrative workforce.
The association’s leadership says the strike became unavoidable after repeated attempts to engage the government on the implementation of the agreed conditions of service yielded no results.
This move comes despite a directive from the National Labour Commission instructing CLOGSAG to suspend the strike and return to negotiations. The union, however, has urged its members to ignore the directive and continue with the strike, arguing that the government has failed to adequately address their concerns.
Officials argue that the delays in implementing the agreed terms have caused frustration among members, who feel their welfare and working conditions are being neglected.
Speaking to Citi News, CLOGSAG Public Relations Officer Edmund Aquaye confirmed that the union has received no official response from the government since issuing the strike notice last week. He emphasized that the decision to proceed remains unchanged.
“Since last Thursday, when we announced the strike, the National Assembly Council of CLOGSAG has not received any communication from our employer. Therefore, the strike is still on. We call on all members, wherever they are, not to report to work on March 9,” Mr. Aquaye said.
He added, “We are dealing directly with our employer, and we expect them to communicate with us regarding our demands.”
