The Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council has uncovered an illegal abortion clinic and an unlicensed drugstore selling pharmaceuticals unlawfully in a slum community at Asawase, Ashanti Region.

The discovery took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, during a special operation led by Municipal Chief Executive Ben Abdallah Alhassan. This raid is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and related crimes within the municipality.

Both the clinic and pharmacy, located in a densely populated slum near the Peleele Stream, were operating without regulatory approval. Authorities warn this poses serious health risks, especially to vulnerable youth in the area.

Addressing the media, Alhassan expressed deep concern over the findings, emphasizing the urgency of sustained enforcement actions.

“The operation exposed several illegal activities. There is an unlicensed pharmacy and a clinic reportedly performing illegal abortions,” he said.

“This represents a grave health danger to our community, particularly the youth. We have confiscated some drugs for further investigation,” he added.
