The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) carried out a major operation against illegal mining activities in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Acting on credible intelligence, the task force targeted galamsey sites at Anyankyirem, a concession legally owned by Ashanti Gold Corporation but reportedly occupied by illegal miners from Amansie, who were preventing the company from accessing its lawful mining area.

NAIMOS also secured other strategic locations around the Obuasi Airport, another hotspot for illicit mining activities.

During the raids, authorities seized motorbikes, vehicles, water pumps, and other mining equipment, while makeshift structures and tools used for illegal operations were destroyed on site.

Although most illegal miners fled when the task force arrived, one individual suspected to be a key organiser of the illegal operations was apprehended.

He is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations and potential prosecution.

The operation underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to curbing illegal mining and protecting legally acquired concessions in the region.
