Ghana have completed a remarkable footballing comeback, securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over a determined Comoros 🇰🇲 side at the Accra Sports Stadium 🇬🇭.
The win not only sealed top spot in Group I but also marked a triumphant return to the global stage for the Black Stars — less than two years after the national team’s painful failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Back in November 2024, the nation was left in shock when Ghana missed out on the continental tournament for the first time since 2004. Despite heavy criticism and widespread calls for his resignation, head coach Otto Addo stood firm.
“I’m not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I’d never have become a player or even a coach,” Addo declared. “If you know where I’ve come from to arrive at this job, you wouldn’t even ask about resignation.”
Having guided Ghana to the Qatar 2022 World Cup in his first tenure, Addo returned determined to rebuild. With a refreshed technical team behind him, he masterminded an impressive qualifying campaign — amassing 25 points from ten games.
Ghana were closely trailed by Madagascar, but it was Mohammed Kudus who delivered the decisive moment, netting the only goal against Comoros to punch Ghana’s ticket to North America.
A key catalyst in the team’s success has been Jordan Ayew, whose seven goals in qualifying underpinned Ghana’s attacking resurgence.
The 2026 edition will be Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup™, following campaigns in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. The Black Stars will now aim to surpass their historic 2010 quarter-final run — still remembered for Asamoah Gyan’s heroics and the unforgettable drama against Uruguay.
With renewed belief, unity, and a sense of unfinished business, Otto Addo’s men are once again set to carry Africa’s hopes on football’s grandest stage.
