The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially kicked off its campaign for the upcoming Akwatia by-election, unveiling Solomon Kwame Asumadu—popularly known as ‘Owuo’—as its parliamentary candidate.
The grand launch took place at the Boadua Presbyterian Church in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, drawing hundreds of party supporters.
Held under the theme “Winning Together in Honour of Hon. Ernest Yaw Kumi,” the event served both as a delegates conference and a show of party unity in the wake of the late MP’s passing.

The gathering featured key party figures, including Akuapem North MP Sammy Awuku, former Akwatia MP Mercy Adu Gyamfi (Ama Sey), National Youth Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, Eastern Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu, and other regional executives.
Party leaders emphasized that Asumadu’s selection followed broad stakeholder consultations and was rooted in the belief that he is best positioned to carry on the legacy of the late MP.
Speakers rallied supporters to actively campaign and not take victory for granted, urging a vigorous door-to-door effort ahead of the by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
