The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a public holiday, contrary to public speculation.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the Ministry cited the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, and emphasized that only dates listed in the officially approved holiday calendar are to be recognized as statutory holidays.
The clarification comes amid widespread confusion about whether August 4, formerly celebrated as Founders’ Day, would be observed this year. However, the Ministry made it clear that August 4 is not included in the 2025 list of approved public holidays.
The Ministry urged all citizens, businesses, and institutions to take note and go about their normal activities on that day without interruption.
