Atonsu have etched their name into history, emerging champions of the maiden edition of the Lawson Media Inter-Community Gala after defeating Moshie Zongo 4–2 on penalties in a thrilling final that truly lived up to its billing.

Played amid deafening cheers and electric atmosphere at the Cocoa Ase Astro Turf in Bantama, the final was a perfect advertisement for grassroots football—packed with intensity, skill, drama and pride.

Regulation time ended with neither side able to break the deadlock, forcing the contest into a tense penalty shootout where Atonsu held their nerve to clinch the ultimate prize.

The final was illuminated by the presence of two headline stars. Dickson Afoakwa, former Asante Kotoko forward, led Atonsu with experience and composure, while Hamza Mohammed, formerly of Accra Hearts of Oak, marshalled Moshie Zongo with flair and authority. Both players thrilled fans with moments of brilliance, but when it mattered most, it was Afoakwa’s Atonsu who rose highest to claim the crown.

The historic occasion attracted a host of high-profile personalities. Dr. Lawson Kyei Manu, Chief Executive Officer of the Lawson Group and Companies, alongside his wife Maa Becky, were present to witness the grand finale of a tournament their brand proudly supported. Their presence underlined Lawson’s commitment to youth empowerment, sports development and community unity.

Also in attendance was Aspiring NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, adding political and community significance to the event.

The glamour continued as Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo, who travelled from Spain, graced the final, interacting warmly with King Eben and popular actor Yaw Dabo, much to the delight of fans.

The stands were packed to capacity as supporters from Atonsu, Moshie Zongo and other communities turned the venue into a carnival of drums, chants and colours—highlighting the gala’s growing status as one of the biggest inter-community football events in the Ashanti Region.

In the third-place playoff, Asawase secured GHS 20,000, while Tech finished fourth and took home GHS 10,000, rounding off a fiercely competitive tournament that featured football excellence from start to finish.

Adding to the celebration, African Child, the reggae musician, thrilled patrons with an energetic performance that crowned an unforgettable night of football and entertainment.

With Atonsu lifting the trophy and pocketing GHS 40,000, the maiden Lawson Media Inter-Community Gala closes on a historic note—setting a high standard and laying a strong foundation for an even bigger and better edition in the years to come.
