GES Releases 2026/2027 SHS and SHTS Academic Calendar
New calendar outlines schedules for single-track and transitional schools, including WASSCE dates and holiday breaks.

In a statement issued on June 1, GES urged parents, students, teachers, and school administrators to take note of the schedule and make adequate preparations ahead of the new academic year.
“The Management of GES wishes to inform parents/guardians, students, and the public that the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year has been finalised,” the statement said.
Under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students will begin the first semester on September 18, 2026, and continue until January 29, 2027. They will then proceed on vacation until March 29, 2027, with the second semester running from March 30 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students under the same system will also begin on September 18, 2026. Their first semester will end on December 18, 2026, followed by a vacation period until January 31, 2027. They will resume on February 1, 2027, and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, Form One students will alternate between in-person and online learning. They will start school on September 18, 2026, and move into online learning from November 16 to December 18, 2026. After a break, they will return for in-person classes from February 8 to April 16, 2027, before continuing online learning from April 19 to May 14, 2027.
Their second semester will run from June 21 to August 27, 2027.
Form Two students in transitional schools will begin on November 16, 2026, and continue in school until February 5, 2027. They will then shift to online learning from February 8 to March 5, 2027, before resuming the second semester from April 19 to August 27, 2027.
Form Three students will run a more continuous academic schedule, attending school from September 18 to December 18, 2026, breaking briefly, and resuming on January 5, 2027, before completing the academic year on June 18, 2027.
GES further announced that the Christmas break will run from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break is scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to take place from April 6 to June 18, 2027, while Form Two students will observe a mid-semester break from June 17 to June 20, 2027.
