Former Roads Minister and Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye has fired back at current Roads Minister Kwame Agbodza’s assertion that the Akufo-Addo administration’s road achievements were a “mirage.”
Speaking in Parliament following the July 30 Government Accountability Series briefing, Asenso-Boakye called the comments misleading and accused Agbodza of deliberate distortion and double standards.
He insisted that between 2017 and 2024, over 13,624 kilometers of roads—including new constructions, asphalt overlays, reconstructions, and upgrades—were completed. He emphasized the data was compiled by the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate and not politically influenced.
Asenso-Boakye also criticized Agbodza’s remarks on single-source procurement, calling out what he described as a contradictory stance. “You cannot demonize a method when others use it, only to defend it when you’re in power,” he stated.
Urging the Roads Ministry to stay focused on technical work rather than political messaging, the former minister said, “Ghanaians deserve honest, data-driven leadership.” The Minority Caucus on the Roads and Transport Committee echoed this sentiment, stressing their commitment to transparency and accuracy in public infrastructure reporting.
