Asenso-Boakye: Galamsey Has Been Worst Under NDC Government
MP Francis Asenso-Boakye criticizes NDC for failing to tackle galamsey, despite earlier promises, and highlights EPA reports on crop destruction

- Asenso-Boakye says galamsey has worsened under the NDC government.
- EPA reports confirm illegal mining is destroying Ghana’s food crops.
- NPP MPs, though fewer in number, continue to hold the government accountable.
Francis Asenso-Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their handling of galamsey, describing it as the worst under their administration.
Speaking with Kwame Tanko on the Lawson TV Ghana Se Sen Show on Tuesday, 25th November, 2025 Asenso-Boakye noted that while the NDC had accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of fueling illegal mining during its time in opposition, the situation has reportedly worsened since they assumed power.
“They labeled the NPP as the ones responsible for galamsey and promised to solve the problem within four months, but the reality is far worse today,” he said, citing official reports from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that confirm illegal mining is destroying Ghana’s food crops.
Asenso-Boakye acknowledged that the NPP also made mistakes while in office but emphasized that lessons have been learned, and measures have been put in place to address challenges effectively.
The MP further highlighted that NPP lawmakers, despite being smaller in number, continue to hold the government accountable, scrutinizing issues such as the 2026 budget and other parliamentary business.
“The NDC members spoke passionately in opposition and won the hearts of Ghanaians, but once in power, they have failed to deliver, particularly on galamsey,” he added.
He stressed that addressing the galamsey menace requires sustained action and prudent governance, pointing to the NPP’s earlier economic and environmental management as an example of what can be achieved with careful planning.
