Akrofuom Constituency has secured its first-ever football park following the intervention of its Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Azumah, marking a major milestone in youth and sports development in the area.

Speaking in an interview on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko, on January 8, 2026 the MP revealed that prior to his election, the constituency had no recognised football pitch, a situation that limited sports development and youth engagement.

According to Hon. Azumah, the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to empower the youth and promote unity through sports.

He explained that the project was made possible through strategic collaboration, with special support from former Sports Minister, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

The new football park, located in Akrofuom, features natural grass and spectator stands, making it the first modern sports facility of its kind in the constituency.

The MP announced that the first phase of the project will be commissioned on March 6, in commemoration of Ghana’s Independence Day, adding that additional phases will be executed within the year to fully complete the facility.

Hon. Azumah noted that sports remains a powerful tool for promoting peace, discipline and talent development, particularly among the youth. He stressed that the project is expected to create opportunities for organised football competitions and community activities.

Beyond sports infrastructure, the MP reiterated his commitment to addressing unemployment and supporting young people and informal sector workers in the constituency.

Residents have welcomed the project, describing it as a historic intervention that places Akrofuom on the sports development map.

The football park forms part of several development initiatives undertaken by Hon. Joseph Azumah within his first year in office, as he continues to deliver on key campaign promises to the people of Akrofuom.
