The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has dismissed reports suggesting that the government has stopped engaging the medical drone delivery company Zipline, affirming that discussions are ongoing to reassess the contract for value for money.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, 1 December, Akandoh emphasised that the ministry has held multiple meetings with Zipline and continues to scrutinise both operational and financial aspects of the agreement.

“Contrary to reports that we are not engaging Zipline, that is not true. We have met more than three times and are still in discussions to ensure the services provide value for money,” he said, adding that this is in line with the President’s directive for all ministries to prioritise prudent public spending.

His remarks come amid reports that Zipline is preparing to close three operational centres due to an outstanding GH¢174 million debt owed by the government.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has urged a complete termination of the contract, describing it as a waste of state resources and questioning whether the drone delivery model has justified its cost to the nation.
