The Weija Divisional Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of 13-year-old Celestine Adonteng, who was allegedly beaten to death by her father, Mason Isaac Adonteng, in Kokrobite, Accra.
The police issued a statement on Thursday, November 20.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the 54-year-old suspect reportedly assaulted his daughter with a cane, metal pipe, and other objects after accusing her of taking food intended for her younger sibling.
Despite her multiple injuries, the father allegedly did not seek medical help and confined her in a room.
Police, responding to a complaint, discovered the girl unconscious at the home. She was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has been preserved at the hospital morgue pending an autopsy.
Authorities recovered a cutlass and metal pipe believed to have been used in the assault.
In the statement, the Accra Regional Police Command warned parents and guardians against using excessive force in disciplining children, stressing that such actions are criminal and can lead to tragic outcomes.
The police also urged the public to report all cases of child abuse and domestic violence to enable prompt intervention and protection of vulnerable victims.
