Abuakwa Manhyia, Ashanti Region – Six people, including a three-month-old infant, have tragically lost their lives in a fire that broke out at an apartment in Abuakwa Manhyia, Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

The blaze occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Evans Opoku, the Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, stated that he was informed about the incident shortly after electricity was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary power outage on Sunday evening.

Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie stations were dispatched to contain the fire, but the victims were reportedly trapped inside the apartment, leading to their deaths.

Police have identified the charred bodies and are making arrangements to transfer them to the morgue while investigations into the incident continue.
