Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Barbara Serwaah, has boldly declared that Ablekuma North will turn green by the end of today, marking a historic win for the party in the constituency.
Speaking on Ghana Se Sen on Lawson TV, she expressed confidence in the outcome of the parliamentary election rerun, stating that “everything is smooth now” and commending the security agencies for a well-coordinated deployment across all polling stations.
“This year is a year of surprises,” she asserted. “For the first time, NDC will take this seat. We’re winning.”
Serwaah revealed that the NDC remained focused on its candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, and paid no attention to the NPP’s announced boycott, claiming they were familiar with the ruling party’s strategies.
The Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun stems from a contested outcome in the December 7, 2024 general elections, where disputes over pink sheets and collation processes affected 62 polling stations. While the Electoral Commission (EC) processed results from 59 stations, three remained unresolved, triggering legal battles.
In January 2025, the High Court ordered the EC to complete the collation and declare the results. However, due to irregularities and missing endorsements in 19 polling stations, the EC decided to hold a rerun to uphold electoral integrity.
The NPP opposed the EC’s move, insisting that its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, had already won by 414 votes. After filing an injunction to stop the rerun, the court dismissed the case on July 9, calling it unmeritorious.
The NDC, meanwhile, has remained resolute, insisting their candidate won the original election. Party leaders and MPs have mounted a vigorous campaign, urging voters to turn out in support of Ewurabena Aubynn and “paint Ablekuma North green.”
