The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Tumbana Ane, over the alleged distribution of illicit drugs at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
Police said the arrest followed a search of the suspect’s residence, where officers found 38 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other prohibited substances, including Tramadol.
The operation also uncovered a tunnel on the property, which has become a major focus of the investigation.
According to the Police, investigators suspect the tunnel may have been constructed to conceal illicit substances and could have been used as an escape route during police operations.
The Police said investigations have been intensified to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged activities and establish whether other individuals are connected to the suspected drug distribution network.
Preliminary findings have also allegedly linked Ane to the operation of brothels at an illegal mining site at Wuru, a suburb of the Kayoro community in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
