Former Energy Minister and NPP National Chairman aspirant, Boakye Agyarko, has congratulated John Boadu on his election as the new National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Boadu secured 2,888 votes at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, defeating Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,408 votes. Former National Chairman Paul Afoko came third with 790 votes, while Sammy Crabbe obtained 41 votes.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, Mr Agyarko described the election as a reaffirmation of the NPP’s democratic tradition and urged members to respect the delegates’ decision as the party enters a new phase.

He congratulated Mr Boadu and wished him wisdom, strength and success as he assumes leadership of the party.

Mr Agyarko also congratulated the newly elected national executives, describing their victories as a call to duty, service and sacrifice as the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle.

He expressed appreciation to his campaign team, constituency executives and delegates across Ghana and the diaspora for their support throughout the campaign.

He stressed that the internal contest should not create lasting divisions within the party.

“Internal contests in our party are not battles between adversaries; they are family contests among brothers and sisters committed to the same sacred cause,” he said.

According to Mr Agyarko, the conclusion of the elections should usher in a period of consolidation, with members putting aside their differences and working together to strengthen the party.

“Today, there are no individual victors or vanquished – it is the New Patriotic Party that has emerged victorious,” he added.

Mr Agyarko subsequently pledged his support to Mr Boadu, the newly elected National Executive Committee and the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

He said the NPP’s main objective must be to secure a decisive victory in the 2028 elections.

Mr Agyarko also commended the NPP National Elections Committee, the Electoral Commission and the security services for what he described as a smooth, transparent and peaceful electoral process.
