Police to Begin Full Implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH on October 1

The Ghana Police Service will commence the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1, 2026, as part of efforts to improve road safety and strengthen compliance with traffic regulations.

The programme, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is aimed at addressing indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and promoting adherence to road traffic laws.

According to a press release issued by the Police Service on September 15, TRAFFITECH-GH will deploy cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations.

Under the system, traffic violations detected by the technology will be reviewed before Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) are issued to vehicle owners or drivers via SMS.

The electronic notice will contain details of the offence committed as well as the prescribed fine applicable to the violation.

The Police Service has therefore urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to familiarise themselves with road traffic regulations and comply with them as the automated enforcement system comes into full operation.

The Service said the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH is intended to promote safer roads and help reduce road traffic crashes and casualties across the country.

The Police further encouraged the public to support the programme as part of broader efforts to improve road discipline and road safety in Ghana.

The announcement was contained in a press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service.

The full implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH takes effect on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
