GAPTE Puts 48 Repaired Aayalolo Buses Back on Accra Roads

The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE) has repaired and deployed 48 previously grounded Aayalolo buses on major routes across Accra as part of efforts to improve public transportation and ease traffic congestion in the capital.
The addition brings the total number of operational Aayalolo buses serving commuters across the Greater Accra Region to 128, according to GAPTE.
GAPTE Managing Director, Awudu Dawuda, disclosed this when the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, visited the Aayalolo terminal at Madina.
The visit was aimed at assessing the performance of the Aayalolo bus service and identifying measures to improve its operations and make public transport more efficient for commuters.
Dawuda said expanding the fleet of operational buses had been a major priority for GAPTE, particularly as the organisation seeks to improve mobility and help tackle persistent traffic congestion in the Greater Accra Region.
He explained that GAPTE inherited 80 operational buses and subsequently repaired 48 additional vehicles, bringing the number of buses available for deployment across its routes to 128.
“The 80 buses that we inherited – the most important thing was for us to enhance mobility and ease congestion in the Greater Accra region – and so we had to repair over 48 buses and these buses have been added to the 80 buses and so we currently have 128 in our corridors. If I say corridors, I am talking about the routes we are on,” Dawuda said.
The move is expected to strengthen Aayalolo’s capacity to serve commuters across Accra while contributing to efforts to reduce pressure on the city’s roads.
