The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ashanti Region, has officially launched the 2025 Ashanti Regional GJA Awards at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi.
The launch formally unveiled the awards and provided journalists and other stakeholders with details on the various categories, eligibility requirements, submission process and other arrangements for the awards.
Speaking at the launch, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Kofi Adu Domfeh, said the initiative is aimed at recognising and celebrating journalists who have distinguished themselves through impactful and quality journalism.
He explained that the awards are open to GJA members who have made significant contributions to the journalism profession through their work.
Chairman Adu Domfeh encouraged eligible members to submit their works for consideration, stressing that all entries would undergo thorough assessment by a designated vetting committee.
He also emphasised the Association’s responsibility to continuously build the capacity of journalists, particularly in the face of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to him, journalists must acquire the necessary skills to adapt to technological changes while upholding professional and ethical standards.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Awards Vetting Committee, Isaac Justice Bediako, announced that submission of entries would officially begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He assured journalists that the vetting process would be handled by a highly qualified committee, describing its members as “top-notch” and capable of conducting a thorough and credible assessment of submitted works.
Mr Bediako urged eligible journalists to take advantage of the opportunity and submit their best works for consideration.
The awards are expected to provide a platform to celebrate excellence in journalism while motivating media practitioners in the Ashanti Region to produce impactful, credible and professional work.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen the culture of professional development within the media fraternity and encourage journalists to remain responsive to the changing demands of the profession.
