Two Remanded Over 500 Wraps of Suspected Indian Hemp at Arts Centre

The Accra Circuit Court Nine has remanded two men who are accused of possessing 500 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The accused, Torsu Assidam and Kofi Kesse, did not have their pleas taken when they appeared before the court on Tuesday.

They have been remanded and are scheduled to reappear on October 14, 2026.

An alleged accomplice, identified only as Amando, is currently at large.

Police Arrest

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Clement Sarpong told the court, presided over by Joseph Yennuban Kunsong, that the Accra Regional Police Command received information on August 23 that a group of young men were allegedly in possession of a quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp and were selling it to residents at the Arts Centre.

Following the report, a team of officers from the Accra Regional Stopper ‘2’ was dispatched to the area.

The officers arrested the two accused persons and took them to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigation.

According to the prosecution, police found 500 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in the possession of the accused. The exhibits were seized and submitted for further investigation.

Alleged Admission

Chief Inspector Sarpong told the court that during preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that the seized exhibits belonged to them.

The prosecution further said the two men told investigators that Amando had supplied the exhibits for them to sell.

However, the accused were reportedly unable to assist the police in locating Amando, who remains at large.

The prosecution said the two accused persons subsequently admitted the offence during investigations and were arraigned before the court.

Meanwhile, the seized exhibits have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and a report.

The prosecution said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest Amando to assist with the investigation.
