Asantehene Warns Asantes in Diaspora Against Chieftaincy Disputes
Otumfuo says chieftaincy-related disagreements among Asantes abroad must not undermine efforts to unite and promote Asante culture and heritage.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned Asantes living in the diaspora to desist from unnecessary disagreements, grudges and conflicts over chieftaincy matters abroad.
Otumfuo made the call during the grand durbar of the 6th Akwasidɛ in the United States, held in Washington and Maryland.
Addressing the gathering monitored by Lawson Media’s Oheneyere Adwoa Apirebi, the Asantehene expressed concern over reports of disagreements among some Asantes in the diaspora regarding chieftaincy issues.
According to Otumfuo, some of the grievances have come to his attention, prompting him to urge members of the Asante community abroad to prioritise unity, peace and the preservation of their cultural heritage.
The Asantehene noted that those who travelled to the United States did not go there with ancestral black stools, stressing that their presence abroad should be centred on coming together to promote and preserve Asante heritage.
He cautioned that efforts to showcase Asante culture and identity should not become a source of division among members of the community.
Otumfuo therefore urged Asantes in the diaspora to put aside their differences and work together to ensure that their collective efforts to promote Asante traditions do not defeat the very purpose for which they have come together.
He emphasised the importance of unity among Asantes abroad, particularly as they seek to preserve their identity, traditions and connection to the Asante Kingdom.
The Asantehene’s comments formed part of the key messages delivered during the colourful celebration, which brought together Asantes and other dignitaries to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom.
The 6th Akwasidɛ in the United States featured a grand durbar and various cultural activities aimed at showcasing Asante traditions and strengthening the bond among Asantes living in the diaspora.
Otumfuo’s appeal comes as Asante communities outside Ghana continue to organise traditional and cultural activities to preserve their heritage and pass their traditions on to future generations.
