The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah popularly known as COKA has appealed to market women and leadership across Kumasi to support the party’s grassroots restructuring efforts as it prepares to recapture political power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during separate outreach engagements at the Bantama and Racecourse markets on Wednesday morning alongside regional party executives, Chairman Odeneho addressed growing concerns regarding a perceived disconnect between the party leadership and its core constituency at the market level.
Addressing the traders, Chairman Odeneho assured them that the communication gap would become a thing of the past under his administration, emphasizing that their grievances will be directly integrated into the party’s strategic framework.
“Apart from our founding fathers, market women were the foundational pillar that helped establish the NPP,” Chairman Odeneho stated.
He added that “Under my tenure, we will deepen our engagements with you to ensure your real-world concerns directly inform our policy design.”
Economic Hardships:
The regional chairman acknowledged the current economic challenges facing traders, expressing empathy over reported declines in market sales and reduced patronage.
Framing the economic landscape ahead of the next election cycle, Chairman Odeneho argued that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has historically burdened Ghanaians with ineffective governance.
He asserted that an NPP administration remains the standard-bearer for sound economic management and social intervention policies.
“It is disheartening to hear your complaints about slow market trade, but this underscores a clear lesson which is that, the NPP remains your strongest ally for effective governance and economic progress,” COKA urged.
The regional chairman added that, “I plead with you to stand with us in this rebuilding phase so we can return the party to government in 2028.”
Reorganization:
Highlighting the scope of the party’s post-election reconciliation drive, Chairman Odeneho reiterated that deliberate outreach to trade associations, artisan groups, and civic bodies will remain a permanent feature of his leadership.
He assured stakeholders that the NPP would actively consult identifiable interest groups to ensure their contributions shape the party’s national platform.
Market Queens:
Responding to the executive delegation, market leaders welcomed the initiative while calling for internal cohesion within the party structure.
Madam Afua Kyeiwaa (Market Queen, Kumasi Racecourse) stressed that internal unity is essential if the NPP hopes to rebuild its structural foundation and win back public confidence ahead of 2028.
Madam Yaa Foriwaah (Market Queen, Kumasi Racecourse) commended Chairman Odeneho for prioritizing direct engagement with frontline traders. She pledged the support of her fellow market women toward the party’s reorganization efforts, expressing optimism for policies that support women-led businesses across Ghana.
