At least five people are feared dead following a violent collision between a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Thursday, August 13.

The early-morning crash left the Sprinter severely damaged, with several passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

Emergency personnel were quickly deployed to the scene to rescue those trapped and provide assistance to survivors.

According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), rescue teams were working to extricate victims from the mangled vehicle and transport those who sustained serious injuries to medical facilities.

Among those rescued was a female victim whose legs were reportedly severed in the collision. She was evacuated from the scene by ambulance for medical attention.

The GNFS described the situation as volatile as its personnel continued rescue and clearance operations. Authorities said the final number of casualties had not yet been established.

The crash has also disrupted traffic on the Accra–Kumasi Highway, with part of the road temporarily restricted to allow emergency crews to operate safely.

The GNFS has advised motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra to use the outer lane, approach the area with extreme caution and give way to emergency responders.

Motorists have been urged to exercise patience as rescue and clearance operations continue at the crash scene.
