Ashanti Police Arrest Suspected Robber Seeking Treatment for Gunshot Wound

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.

The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after seeking medical treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its operations patrol team received information around 11 p.m. that an armed robbery was taking place along the Hiakose-Newense road.

Officers who responded to the scene reportedly heard gunshots as they approached and saw one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush carrying a bag.

The officers pursued the suspect, while a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.

Police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had reported to a medical facility for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Officers proceeded to the facility and arrested Nsiah, who was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock.

He is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.

The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify and arrest other persons suspected to have been involved.
