Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the NDC-led government under John Mahama of failing Ghana and its economy.
He stated that instead of addressing issues that would ease the burdens of Ghanaians, the government is using its power to intimidate and harass political opponents.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin made these remarks during the ‘Democracy Under Attack’ demonstration in Accra, where he criticized the use of state security agencies, including EOCO, to frustrate opposition figures.
He emphasized that he is not opposed to accountability or law enforcement when laws are genuinely broken. However, he condemned deliberate persecution, harassment, and attacks against opponents.
The Minority Leader warned the government to exercise restraint in its abuse of power, noting that the NDC will eventually exit power.
He concluded by assuring that the demonstration will proceed peacefully, with measures in place to ensure that the main objectives are achieved without damaging any state property.
