Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aspiring National Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a warning that no government remains in power forever. He cautioned that the way political opponents are treated today could set a precedent for future administrations.
Mr. Aboagye emphasized that actions taken against opposition figures could have long-term implications for Ghana’s democracy, regardless of which party eventually rules.
His remarks come amid rising political tensions and ahead of an upcoming demonstration organized by the NPP and its supporters.
Mr. Aboagye pointed out that history shows no government is permanent, urging leaders to avoid creating precedents they might regret later.
“It may be the CPP, PNC, or PNP, but what you are essentially telling the country is that tomorrow, when another party takes over, you won’t be in power forever. Even during our darkest times—whether under military rule or otherwise—there was always a change of government.
“In our history, even when guns were involved, and people were forcibly taken from their homes or worse, there was still a transition of power,” he said.
He added, “So, don’t deceive yourself into thinking that because you’re in power today, you’ll remain so forever. One day, there will be a change in government — and it may even be your own party that loses power. But remember, you won’t be part of that change.”
