National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says the government has made significant progress in stabilising Ghana’s economy, describing it as the foundation for sustainable growth, investment and job creation.
Speaking in interview Mr Asiedu Nketia expressed satisfaction with the government’s performance since assuming office, saying the gains achieved so far have strengthened his confidence that the NDC can maintain its political momentum.
“I’m happy about what we have been able to achieve so far. I’m praying that we should be able to maintain the pace or even improve on what we have done, and it will not be difficult for us to retain power,” he said.
According to him, the government’s greatest achievement has been restoring stability to the economy by improving key macroeconomic indicators.
He explained that a stable economy is essential for attracting investment, expanding businesses and creating jobs, stressing that meaningful development cannot take place without sound economic fundamentals.
Mr Asiedu Nketia said the government has made notable progress in controlling the depreciation of the cedi, reducing inflation and improving debt-related indicators.
He noted that these improvements are creating conditions for lower interest rates, making it easier for businesses to access affordable credit, invest in expansion and employ more people.
“Once inflation comes down, lending rates can also reduce, making it easier for businesses to borrow, invest and make profits. As businesses grow, they create more jobs,” he explained.
The NDC Chairman added that beyond stabilising the economy, the government is investing heavily in infrastructure, particularly road construction, to create an enabling environment for businesses and economic activity.
He maintained that strengthening the country’s economic fundamentals remains the administration’s top priority, insisting that it is the first step toward achieving long-term economic transformation.
