At least four people have been confirmed dead and several others injured after a dynamite explosion rocked Aboso in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region on Tuesday, August 4.
The blast occurred in the Breman area of Aboso, sending shockwaves through nearby communities and causing panic among residents, many of whom initially thought an earthquake had struck.
According to an eyewitness, the explosion may have been accidentally triggered when a gunshot aimed at a snake struck explosives that had allegedly been concealed near a fuel station.
The eyewitness said a man believed to be involved in handling explosives had reportedly hidden some of the materials in the area. Workers said to be associated with him were later working nearby when they spotted a snake and attempted to shoot it.
“The gunshot missed the snake and hit the explosives, which exploded and killed several people around the area,” the eyewitness recounted.
The explosion killed four people on the spot, injured several others, and forced frightened residents to flee for safety.
Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to rescue the injured, secure the area, and assess the extent of the destruction caused by the blast.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the circumstances surrounding the alleged storage of the explosives or the exact cause of the explosion. Investigations are currently underway to establish the facts and determine what led to the deadly incident.
