Mother of Two Jailed for Life for Killing Husband at Omanjor in 2021
High Court convicts Lydia Aboagye after jury returns a 5-2 majority verdict in the 2021 fatal stabbing of her husband.

The conviction came after a full trial, during which a seven-member jury returned a 5-2 majority guilty verdict, meeting the legal threshold under Section 46 of Act 29, as amended by the Criminal and Other Offences (Amendment) Act, 2023 (Act 1101).
Presiding judge, Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, convicted the accused based on the jury’s verdict and sentenced her to life imprisonment.
Before the sentence was handed down, Lydia Aboagye was given the opportunity to address the court but simply told the judge, “I have nothing to say.”
The court also informed the convict and her legal team that they have one month from July 30, 2026, to file an appeal at the Court of Appeal if they wish to challenge the judgment.
How the Incident Happened
According to the prosecution, Lydia Aboagye and her husband lived in a single-room apartment at Omanjor-Dwenewoho with their two children.
In the early hours of November 3, 2021, a misunderstanding broke out between the couple. During the confrontation, the prosecution said Lydia picked up a broken Coca-Cola bottle and stabbed her husband in the left rib.
Investigators said she then locked the injured man inside the room while he bled and later disposed of the broken bottle in a nearby bush before returning home.
The victim was later discovered lying in a pool of blood after the landlord forced open the locked room upon hearing unusual noises reported by his daughter.
Residents quickly rushed Kweku Gyasi to the Ga West Municipal Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was subsequently transferred to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The prosecution further told the court that Lydia later returned to the room and attempted to clean the bloodstains on the floor before neighbours apprehended her and handed her over to the police.
After hearing evidence from both the prosecution and defence witnesses, the jury found her guilty, leading to her conviction and life sentence.
