Several firefighters have reportedly sustained injuries while battling a massive fire outbreak at a rubber recycling warehouse and factory in Tema.
The firefighters were working to contain the blaze on Tuesday morning when part of the building’s roof reportedly collapsed, trapping and injuring some of the personnel.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is yet to confirm the number of firefighters affected or the extent of their injuries.
Despite the setback, the firefighting team remained at the scene, conducting salvage and overhaul operations to completely extinguish the fire and prevent a possible rekindle.
The inferno caused extensive damage to the warehouse and factory, although the full scale of destruction is yet to be assessed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations expected to commence after the area has been declared safe.
The GNFS has assured the public that further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
