Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has praised new manager Enzo Maresca’s style of play, describing it as “music to my ears” after demonstrating early signs of his role under the Italian boss.
City suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Inter Milan in Maresca’s first game in charge in Hong Kong, but the team showed the attacking intent that Maresca is expected to bring following his appointment after Pep Guardiola.
Semenyo played the first half, causing problems for Inter full-back Andy Diouf with his pace and direct running, and he played a key role in setting up Divin Mubama’s goal for City.
Substitute Ryan McAidoo also impressed, with Maresca noting afterward that they are the “kind of wingers I love”—those who are “very aggressive” and willing to take on opponents in “one-v-one” situations.
Semenyo said, “When he got appointed, that was the first thing I thought about because when you look at his time at Chelsea, his wide players were always high and quite free.”
