In an extraordinary display of generosity, a young welder from Ma’ase Adubinso in the Ashanti Region has donated his personal—and only—motorbike to a primary school teacher struggling with a daily 10-kilometer trek in the Bono Region.
The donor, Akwasi Addai, made the selfless decision after listening to the story of Mr. Michael Gyan during the Ghana Se S3n morning show hosted by Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/FM.
Mr. Gyan, the sole educator managing pupils from KG 2 through Class 6 at Adinkrakroma M/A Basic School, had been forced to walk 10 kilometers daily along rough, unpaved roads after his own motorbike broke down beyond repair.
Friends had grown reluctant to lend him their vehicles due to the punishing road conditions, forcing him and his daughter—a recent JHS graduate who assists him with teaching—to make the long journey on foot.
“When I heard that a teacher is walking 10km every day, and sometimes with his daughter, just to teach our children… my heart broke,” Addai reflected.
Without hesitation, Addai handed over the keys to the motorbike he relies on daily to haul welding equipment, pursue job contracts, and sustain his livelihood.
The gesture has drawn widespread praise across the region, highlighting the extreme sacrifices made by rural educators and the powerful impact of community support.
