The Manhyia District Police Command has arrested two men following an intelligence-led operation at Asawase Market in Kumasi, seizing 100 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic drugs.
The operation, carried out on July 21, 2026, targeted a syndicate using illicit smuggling methods to transport narcotics across the Ashanti Region. The suspects have been identified as Osman Bassein, 37, and Mohammed Abdul-Razak, 38.
According to a statement issued by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, officers intercepted 13 fertilizer sacks hidden among second-hand clothing after receiving credible intelligence regarding the shipment.
“During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, officers recovered 13 fertilizer sacks containing second-hand clothing that concealed 100 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs,” police reported, adding that the exhibits were photographed and secured for forensic laboratory testing.
The joint operation was executed by the Manhyia District Commander alongside officers from the Manhyia Divisional CID and the Zongo Police Station. Both suspects remain in custody assisting with ongoing investigations ahead of court processing.
