CID Rescues Nine Trafficking Victims and Arrests Ten Suspects in Afienya Cybercrime Bust

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has raided an illegal cybercrime hub at Mataheko, near Afienya, arresting 10 suspects and rescuing nine human trafficking victims in an intelligence-led operation.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Tuesday, CID Director-General Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor disclosed that operational team units raided a residential apartment following targeted intelligence identifying the location as a command center for internet fraud.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the group’s ringleader, Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, arranged for nine Nigerian nationals to travel by road to Ghana, where they were subsequently forced to carry out cyber-enabled fraudulent activities,” COP Donkor stated.

Rescued Victims and Evidence Confiscated

Police formally identified the nine trafficked Nigerians as victims of organized human exploitation. They have been relocated to a secure shelter where they are receiving professional care, psychological counseling, and support services.

During the raid, forensic investigators seized a significant array of digital equipment, including:

• 28 Laptop Computers: Used to execute online fraud schemes.

  

• 9 Mobile Phones: Taken into custody for comprehensive digital forensic analysis.

COP Donkor highlighted that the bust is part of an ongoing nationwide police offensive targeting human trafficking cartels and digital fraud operations. She urged citizens to support law enforcement efforts by using the “See Something, Say Something” whistleblowing channels to report suspicious neighborhood activities.

Police confirmed that investigations remain ongoing to track down auxiliary members and external financiers tied to the syndicate.
