- NPP alleges Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO.
- Party demands his immediate release or prosecution in court.
- EOCO had not issued an official statement at publication.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding the immediate release of its communications team member, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, following claims that he was arrested by officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The allegation was made by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 12.

According to Mr. Kodua, Mr. Aboagye was allegedly arrested at the airport with the assistance of officers from the Ghana Immigration Service before being taken into EOCO custody.
He further claimed that Mr. Aboagye’s lawyers had been denied access to him and that his whereabouts had not been disclosed, despite no charges being announced.
At the time of publication, EOCO had not issued an official statement on the matter, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest had not been independently verified.
Mr. Aboagye, who recently announced his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Officer of the NPP, is also known as one of the party’s prominent spokespersons.
In his statement, Mr. Kodua described the alleged arrest as politically motivated, arguing that Mr. Aboagye had been a vocal critic of the government on issues including illegal mining and governance.
The NPP has called on EOCO to either release Mr. Aboagye immediately or formally charge him and present him before a court if there are legal grounds for prosecution.
The party also demanded that he be granted immediate and unrestricted access to his lawyers and family, citing constitutional protections for detained persons.
Additionally, the NPP accused the government of using state institutions to target members of the opposition, an allegation that has not been substantiated by official authorities.
Mr. Kodua urged party supporters to remain calm while awaiting further developments as the party continues to press for answers regarding Mr. Aboagye’s reported detention.
