Newcastle United Complete £23m Signing of Ajax Midfielder Sean Steur

Newcastle United have secured the signing of highly rated teenage midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax in a deal worth up to £23 million.
The 18-year-old arrived on Tyneside on Wednesday to complete his medical before signing a five-year contract that will keep him at St. James’ Park until 2031.

Expressing his excitement after completing the move, Steur described joining Newcastle as a dream come true.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be here,” he said. “Newcastle is a huge Premier League club, and it has always been my dream to play in the best league in the world.
“I’ve loved my time at Ajax since joining the club at the age of seven, and I leave with nothing but great memories. But when a club like Newcastle comes calling, it’s very difficult to turn down.”
Steur enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Ajax during the second half of the 2025–26 season, becoming a regular in the first team. He made headlines after starting in Ajax’s De Klassieker victory over Feyenoord at just 17 years old.
His performances also stood out statistically. According to Opta, Steur ranked first among Eredivisie midfielders aged 18 or younger in chances created (15), total carries (231), and duel success rate (56.8%). He also finished second in passes completed (623), passing accuracy (89.7%), tackles (20), possessions won (49), and duels won (46).
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe welcomed the youngster to the club, describing him as a “top young prospect” with an exciting future ahead.
